1. Eat Better
While you can’t control all risk factors of developing varicose veins, your diet is one factor that is completely in your control. To mitigate your risk of developing new varicose veins in the future, make sure you stay hydrated at all times. You should urinate every hour or two and your urine should be very pale yellow if not clear. You can stay hydrated by drinking water and decaffeinated tea or coffee. You can also find hydration in water-dense foods, such as tomatoes, cucumbers and watermelons.
Hydration helps to improve your circulation, and it also serves to lower your blood pressure. If you suffer from hypertension, minimize your sodium intake, as well. Sodium is one of the leading factors contributing to hypertension.
2. Walk More
It may seem contradictory, but two of the biggest risk factors for developing new varicose veins are sitting and standing for too long. The human body has evolved to thrive while in motion. Whether you’re sitting or standing, your circulatory system is slacking off. In the moment, walking gets your heart pumping harder, making it more effective at circulating blood back up through your legs. These are just a couple reasons why having an excessive body fat percentage is conducive to developing varicose veins.
You can’t control where your body loses weight from. For example, you may lose weight in your neck and upper arms but not your stomach. However, overall weight loss, when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen, will bring your blood pressure back down to settle within a healthy range.
